Preparing for Migration from Parallels Pro Control Panel for Linux

This chapter describes what data can be migrated from Parallels Pro Control Panel for Linux (formerly known as Ensim), and discusses the steps you might need to perform before starting migration.

Migrated Objects and Settings

The following table describes what objects and settings are migrated, and which are not.

Object or setting on PPCPL source server

Migration result

User accounts.

Migrated. Each reseller is mapped to Plesk reseller and site administrator is mapped to Plesk customer.

Service plans.

Not migrated.

Domains with hosting scripting settings and web content.

Migrated.

Subdomains.

Migrated. If a subdomain’s owner in PPCPL was not a site/domain administrator, then a new FTP user account is created for that subdomain. The FTP account username format is <owner of subdomain in PPCPL>_<subdomain name>. This FTP user has access only to his or her subdomain. Subdomains are migrated into /var/www/vhosts/<site>/subdomains_wwwroot directory.

Domain aliases.

Not migrated.

DNS zone configurations

Migrated. However, the Weight value of the SRV resource record is displayed incorrectly in Parallels Plesk Panel, and TXT record contains additional quotation marks after migration. After migration, you might need to check the DNS zone settings of the migrated domains, and make any necessary corrections, if required.

Mail accounts with content and webmail settings.

Migrated. After migration, the users will need to update IP addresses of POP3/IMAP/SMTP servers in mail client settings, and refresh the list of IMAP folders in webmail clients.

Mail forwarders.

Migrated.

Mail aliases.

Migrated.

Autoresponders.

Not migrated.

Mailing lists.

Only administrator's e-mail and password, subscribers' e-mail addresses are migrated. Message archives are not migrated.

Settings of SpamAssassin spam filter.

Migrated, except for the following global settings: number of simultaneous spam scans to allow, enable/disable tests that connect to remote servers.

FTP accounts.

Migrated.

Anonymous FTP shares, their settings and files.

Migrated only for IP-based sites.

Web users who do not have their own domain names or subdomains.

Migrated as web users.

Password-protected directories.

Migrated.

SSL certificates and SSL support settings.

Migrated.

Databases with data and database user accounts.

Migrated. If there are database users who had access in PPCPL to several databases under a single domain, they are transformed into separate database user accounts, one account per database, and only the first database is accessible by the site administrator user. For all other databases, other database users are created. They are named <site administrator name>_<some number>. Your customers will need to look up their new database user names in Control Panel.

Installed web applications.

Not migrated, but all files belonging to applications are transferred. After migration, your customers can clean up their sites over FTP.

Records about allocation of disk space resources.

Migrated.

Records about allowed monthly bandwidth usage.

Migrated.

Records about allowed number of mail accounts.

Migrated.

Records about allowed number of subdomains.

Migrated.

Cron jobs.

Not migrated.

Web statistics data and logs.

Not migrated.

What to Do Before You Start Migration from Parallels Pro Control Panel to Parallels Plesk Panel

If you plan to transfer mailing lists to Parallels Plesk Panel, do the following on the destination server:

  1. Install the Mailman mailing lists server component. To do this, in Server Administration Panel, go to Tools & Utilities > Updates > Add Components, select the Mailman mailing list manager support option in the Additional mail services group, and click Continue.
  2. After this component is installed, specify the mailing list server administrator's e-mail address and password. To do this, in Server Administration Panel, go to Tools & Utilities > Set Up Mailing Lists Server (in the Resources group).

If you plan to transfer SpamAssassin settings, do the following on the destination server:

In Server Administration Panel, go to Settings > Spam Filter Settings (in the Mail group), select the Switch on server-wide SpamAssassin spam filtering checkbox and click OK.
