1. Introduction

Thank you for downloading Parallels Plesk Panel for Linux.

This file contains information that supplements the Parallels Plesk Panel documentation, such as requirements, information about new features, resolved bugs, known problems, and so on. This file was updated with the latest information available at the time of release.

This document contains the full list of new features, improvements, and problems resolved in the version 11.0. If you wish to view the changes introduced in each minor release of Panel 11, see Release Notes for Updates Issued for Parallels Plesk Panel 11 for Linux Systems

We do not provide support for upgrading Panel 11.0 preview builds. An attempt to upgrade such builds may cause Panel malfunction or errors during the upgrade. If you decide to upgrade a preview build, use Parallels Migration Manager or backup and restoration tools.

Parallels Plesk Panel 11.0

  1. [+]  Smooth cloning in virtual environments. Administrators can seamlessly scale their infrastructure by copying the same virtual machine with Panel as many times as they need in their virtual environments. Previously, this was problematic because Panel copies and the original had the same configuration, for example, the same IP address pool. Starting such a copy on a machine with a different IP address could make the Panel inoperable because its services were bound to the original IP address.

    Now the administrators can use special utilities to prepare Panel for safe cloning in virtual environments (GoDaddy cloud, Amazon cloud, KVM, Xen, and so on). Learn more about Panel cloning on Linux.

  2. [+]  Modern Look & Feel. The Panel 11 user interface features an updated, modern look that is organized and functions identically to the Panel 10 user interface, so hosters and end-users will have no trouble adapting. If the administrators decide to change the theme later, they can do it in Tools & Settings > Panel Branding. Read more about changing branding and themes.

  3. [+] (Only for Linux) Improve web server performance with nginx 1.3. Administrators can improve the work of the web server which hosts customer websites by installing nginx, a supplementary high-performance web server specifically designed for delivering large amounts of static content.
    The system will configure this server to work as a reverse proxy - nginx becomes a frontend web server that processes all incoming requests from site visitors. The requests are sent to Apache which, in turn, distinguishes requests for static and dynamic content. If a request is for a static file (like jpg, css, html, and so on), Apache passes the request through all registered handlers (applies .htaccess directory-level configuration, rewrites a URL, and so on) and returns to nginx a response which contains only a location of the requested file on the file system. nginx locates the file and sends it to the client. If the request is for a dynamic file (like a PHP script), Apache executes the file and sends the response to nginx, which delivers it to the client.
    Such combination of two servers gives the following advantages:

  4. [+]  Better Security. Panel 11 has put significant efforts into improving security. Hosters and website owners concerned about security should upgrade to Panel 11 for enhanced protection. Among other improvements, your Panel users can find the following:

  5. [+]  Software Development Kit for writing extensions. Adding new functionality to Panel has never been so clear. Use the new SDK (the replacement of former Modules API) to learn how to extend Panel to meet your unique needs.

  6. [+]  Enable more APS applications with better APS 1.2 compliance. Independent software vendors (ISVs) can rely on a smoother end-to-end experience for application deployment with the following new supported aspects:

  7. [+]  Power User view by default. The majority of our customers install Panel for corporate and business use, so we have rearranged the list of options in the view selector to follow this trend. The view selector is the tool that helps you select the most convenient Panel view on the first Panel run.

  8. [+]  Activate Panel by an activation code. Administrators can activate Panel either by uploading an XML key as they did before or by using the new way - providing an activation key. The new option is available in Tools & Settings > License Management > Install Key. Learn more about Panel licensing.

  9. [+]  Transparent activation of commercial APS apps. Now it is possible to purchase a Panel license in a bundle with APS app licenses. When administrators activate Panel using such combined keys and then install the corresponding commercial apps, the system transparently activates the apps without any actions from the administrator. The pool of used and unused app license keys is available in Tools & Settings > License Management > Additional License Keys. Learn more about license bundles.

  10. [+]  (Only for Linux) New operating systems. Parallels Panel can additionally be installed on the following operating systems:

  11. [+]  (Only for Linux) Ability to modify DNS zones in bulk. Administrators can simultaneously update a number of DNS zones. This includes adding, modifying, or removing DNS records from all or a large amount of websites and subdomains. Learn more.

  12. [+]  We added support for the Korean language.

  13. [+]  Panel can be installed to Ubuntu 12.04.

  14. [+]  (Only for Linux) Administrators can prevent sending spam from their servers with Parallels Premium Outbound Antispam - a solution that analyzes outgoing mail in real time and blocks messages containing spam or viruses. To use this solution, they should purchase and install an additional license key. Learn more here.

    Note: Currently, Parallels Premium Outbound Antispam does not check mail sent from IPv6 addresses.
  15. [*]  Upgrade of supplied components. Panel 11.0 includes the following components:

  16. [*]  New documentation structure. Panel documentation was reorganized to ease its use through shortening the list of documents and clearly shaping each document for specific audiences. For example, the Administrator's Guide now includes the Control Panel User's Guide, so administrators have the complete description of the Panel GUI in one document.

  17. [*]  Integration with the Parallels Panel page on Facebook. Administrators can Like the Parallels Panel page on Facebook from within the control panel itself. This feature can be hidden by modifying the panel.ini file. Learn more about managing the button visibility.

  18. [*]  Product rating widget. Administrators can rate Parallels Panel and provide their feedback after one month since their first login. This feature can be hidden by modifying the panel.ini file. Learn more about managing the widget visibility.

  19. [*]  Administrators can hide all promos in Panel altogether (including promos on the Mail tab). Learn how to hide the promos here.

  20. [*]  Panel sessions no longer expire if the Panel IP address changes. To activate this feature, use the new property Allow IP address changes during one session in Tools & Settings < Session Idle Time.

  21. [*]  Panel users can see additional troubleshooting information and proposed solutions when backing up their data.

  22. [*]  Customers can see and install only APS applications that meet all the hosting requirements. For example, an app is displayed in the Applications list if a customer has all necessary web server modules and scripting support.

  23. [*]  Customers were informed that their password was not strong enough if they used the £ symbol in their passwords.

  24. [*]  Panel backups and recovery are completed in less time.

  25. [*]  On each start, Panel rereads IPv6 addresses and re-allocates services which are bound to non-existent IP addresses. This prevents problems with services associated with dynamic addresses.

  26. [*]  Panel users can apply the {WEBSPACEROOT} placeholder in custom PHP settings.

  27. [*]  Panel supports creating customer accounts and subscriptions with passwords encrypted using the SHA256 and SHA512 algorithms.

  29. [*]  Customers can change passwords of their users' mailboxes in the Control Panel.

  30. [*]  Administrators can set a custom name for an APS application's database during the application installation.

  31. [*]  Panel users can set the {WEBSPACEROOT}/:{TMP}/ value to the open_basedir PHP parameter. This eliminates the problem when scripts that require files located outside the site's root directory (additional libraries, configuration files, and so on) do not work. The open-basedir parameter in the server-wide PHP settings now uses this value by default.

    Users can set one of the following predefined values to open_basedir:
    • Default (the defaut value in server-wide php.ini is {DOCROOT}/:/tmp/)

    • None - removes any restrictions. (Not recommended as potentially insecure)
    * Note that during an upgrade to Panel 11, default values in server-wide php.ini are automatically updated. Additional directives remain intact.
  32. [*]  FastCGI is now the default PHP handler in Panel.

    Before Now
    The default PHP handler is Apache module (mod_php). The default PHP handler is FastCGI application. All newly created service plans offer FastCGI by default.
  33. [*]  Administrators can apply changes in the server-wide php.ini to all existing websites.

    Administrators can apply changes in the server-wide php.ini to existing websites only by manually reconfiguring PHP settings for each site through the GUI. Otherwise, each website continues to use its own per-site PHP configuration.   36. [*]  The default validity period of all newly created service plans is now Unlimited.

  37. [-] Panel sent customers notifications about reaching disk space and traffic limits even if they increased the limits by purchasing add-ons.

  49. [-] Administrators could see invalid symbols in the user interface messages when they used the nl-NL locale.

  52. [-] Administrators failed to migrate a website from Plesk 8 if a domain template contained a note.

  54. [-] Panel created an additional A DNS record for a subdomain when updating a zone if the original record was modified.

  55. [-] Panel users could see wrong mailbox size because of incorrect configuration of mailbox quotas.

  56. [-] The IP addresses of existing DNS A records changed to the value of a new A record when adding the record together with the corresponding subdomain in Panel.

  57. [-] Administrator could not activate a firewall rule with the empty port property with the Javascript error similar to "Failed to load resource http://host-name:8880/plesk/modules/firewall/edit/activate/?token=&cmd=confirmFailed to load resource"

  58. [-] Panel blocked ports for IPv4 when administrators activated a firewall rule that blocked the same ports on IPv6.

  59. [-] Administrators could experience problems with running PHP scripts after renaming a domain because Panel did not change the "open_basedir" property after the renaming.

  60. [-] DNS records for subdomains were not added into the parent domain's DNS zone if the zone was marked not to be synced with the DNS template.

  61. [-] Panel did not send all selected parameters to the script under a custom button if the button was configured to open the script inside Panel (not in a separate window).

  62. [-] The default value for FcgidMAXRequestLen was set to 16MB allowing customers to upload files up to this size using their own scripts.

  63. [-] Administrators could not manage their permissions in Simple mode via command line.

  64. [-] Additional domains had the SSL feature enabled (even if the administrator disabled SSL in the service plan for a given subscription) if they were created after disabling SSL support.

  65. [-]  . Customers experienced problems when running PHP scripts that use SQLite because the invalid version of the php53-sqlite package was shipped with Panel for CentOS5 x86_64.

  66. [-]  Postfix reported warnings to the maillog file during Panel installation if the IPv6 support was switched off. The warnings were: "warning: inet_protocols: IPv6 support is disabled: Address family not supported by protocol" and "warning: inet_protocols: configuring for IPv4 support only".

  67. [-]  The system did not perform daily maintenance tasks if Panel was installed on CentOS 6 from Virtuozzo templates.

  68. [-]  Administrators could not install Panel lincense if the Panel was installed to a XenServer which emulated Hyper-V.

  69. [-]  Administrators could not upgrade Panel if the named service was stopped and disabled manually. Panel added the following error in such situations: "Unable to handle named".

  70. [-]  Panel failed to restore backups that contained customer or reseller accounts with periods (".") in their names. The following error occurred: "pmm utility 'Conflict Resolver' raised an exception. Error code is: 1. See pmmcli.log to find out detailed information on this".

  71. [-]  Administrators could not set up the quota with the error "Quota is not supported" on the ext4 file system.

  72. [-]  Customers could not import SQL databases using phpMyAdmin with the error "No database selected" if the SQL file did not contain the command use <db name>.

  73. [-]  During the upgrade process, Administrators saw the error "An error occurred during domain creation: An error occurred during changing of hosting settings: cgi-bin directory mode cannot be specified because cgi support is not enabled" if the data included a website that has a subdomain without the CGI support.

  74. [-]  After upgrading from Panel 10 to 11.0, Panel did not add an A (AAAA) DNS record from the DNS template to the DNS zone of a subdomain if this zone had a CNAME record with the same name as the A (AAAA) record.

  75. [-]  After upgrading from Panel 9.x, Administrators could not update customers' contact information with the error "User with such e-mail already exists in the system" if there was a domain and a domain administrator with the same e-mail as this customer.

  76. [-]  Customers could not create web users with the JavaScript error "f.quota_unlimited is undefined".

  77. [-]  After upgrade, Panel removed subdomains if they did not include webmail or mailing lists.

  78. [-]  Administrators failed to upgrade Panel if they changed the version to which they want to upgrade several times in Parallels Installer before starting the upgrade process.

  79. [-]  Customers were not authenticated in the SugarCRM APS application if they opened it using the link on the Control Panel, the Home page.

  80. [-]  Panel did not increment the serial number in the SOA record of a DNS zone after creating a subdomain. This caused the slave DNS server not to update the zone.

  81. [-]  Panel mistakenly showed MB instead of KB as units of the mailbox size at the mailbox properties page in the Control Panel.

  82. [-]  Panel applied changes in mail server settings to the first domain in each subscription only.

  83. [-]  Administrators could not set the spam filter sensitivity to 6.25 with the error "6.25 doesn't appear to be a float".

  84. [-]  After upgrading to version 10.4, Panel failed to collect resources usage and web statistics.

  85. [-]  Administrators could not configure custom firewall rules for x.x.0.1 networks with the error "Invalid IP address or network".

  86. [-]  Administrators could not switch on the PHP safe mode if the PHP was supported through FastCGI.

  87. [-]  Administrators could not set up the CRAM-MD5 authentication support for courier-imap.

  88. [-]  After upgrading to version 10.4, the Bind service malfunctioned: It either failed to restart, or stopped DNS zones that contained A record for the www subdomain.

  89. [-]  After upgrading to version 10.4, Panel failed to run scheduled backup tasks.

  90. [-]  Panel failed to send Watchdog reports to the administrator.

  91. [-]  Panel failed to show the domains list if it contained a domain with frame forwarding.

  92. [-]  Administrators could not create domains on IP address like x.x.x.0 (with the mask 255.255.y.0) with the error "Unable to restore the DNS zone: an error occurred while adding the test.dom. IN A record: Incorrect DNS record values were specified".

  93. [-]  Webmail and mailing lists did not work on VPS-optimized installations from Virtuozzo templates.

  94. [-]  After upgrading to version 10.4, Panel counted subdomains as domains reducing the number of available domains left.

  95. [-]  Panel did not create A records for subdomains' name servers (glue records) in parent domains' DNS zones.

  96. [-]  Panel failed to restore domain-level virtual host configuration files vhost.conf .

  97. [-]  Panel failed to retrieve additional keys for DrWeb with the error "PHP Fatal error: Call to undefined method Db_Table_Broker_ServiceNodes::components() in /usr/lib/plesk-9.0/key-handler".

  98. [-]  Panel failed to upgrade to version 10.4 if there was a subdomain with docroot in the dev subdirectory of the parent domain webspace. The following error occurred "Error catched: Unable to acquire semaphore."

  99. [-]  Panel did not create the directory conf included into the virtual host template on new virtual hosts.

  100. [-]  Customers with multiple subscriptions could not see the fact that one of their subscriptions is suspended by administrator. When they tried to switch to such subscriptions, their browsers showed errors like "The page isn't redirecting properly. Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete." or started infinitely redirecting.

  101. [-]  Customers could not connect to the Panel mail server from the Apple devices (Mac computers, iPhones, iPads) with the error "Server doesn't accept this authentication method".

  102. [-]  The utility execution failed with the error "PleskUtilException: '/usr/local/psa/admin/bin/apache-config' '-t' failed with code 1." in its output and wrote an error like "Syntax error on line 7 of /usr/local/psa/admin/conf/generated/13224733550.42682300_server.include: DocumentRoot must be a directory" into log files.

  103. [-]  Administrators could not sync non-hosting service plans with subscriptions to them. The following error occurred "Some subscriptions were not synced with the plan. They were marked as 'Unsynced' in the subscriptions list. To retry syncing, go to a subscription overview page and click the Sync button."

  104. [-]  Panel failed to collect statistics if FTP log files were too big.

  105. [-]  Panel failed to execute the daily maintenance script if there were IMAP mail folders with spaces in their names. Errors like the following occurred: "find: /var/qmail/mailnames/ No such file or directory".

  106. [-]  Panel could not process an e-mail with an empty body.

  107. [-]  Migration from Panel 8.6 to Panel 10.4 completed with conflicts regarding limits on the number of SiteBuilder sites even if there were no SiteBuilder sites in the source Panel.

  108. [-]  Customers could not log in to Panel by SSH if they created an additional FTP account and then renamed the SSH account.

  109. [-]  Panel failed to upgrade to version 10.4 with the error "error: %trigger(psa-triggers-10.12.0-cos5.build1012110629.18.noarch) scriptlet failed, exit status 3".

  110. [-]  After administrators install Panel into a VPS environment with a Concerto license and provide their profile information, Panel showed the blank white page.

  111. [-]  During a subdomain creation, Panel synchronized DNS zone of a domain alias with the parent domain's DNS zone even if it was explicitly marked as not to be synced.

  112. [-]  The repair utility execution failed with the error "Argument 1 passed to Service_Dns_Zone::__construct() must be an instance of DNSZone, instance of Db_Table_Row given".

  113. [-]  Panel was unable to run PHP scripts in customers' sites if the PHP support was enabled through FastCGI. The errors like the following occurred: "PHP Warning: session_start(): open(/var/lib/php/session/sess_fit28ahfd6pu07luv14sfhdid0, O_RDWR) failed: Permission denied (13)" and "PHP Warning: Unknown: Failed to write session data (files). Please verify that the current setting of session.save_path is correct (/var/lib/php/session)".

  114. [-]  After upgrading to version 10.4, APS applications malfunctioned due to changes in permissions of these applications' files.

  115. [-]  Panel failed to execute the daily maintenance script with the error "PleskUtilException: '/usr/local/psa/admin/bin/' ' / -vunfm' failed with code 127" in output and error "sh: /usr/local/psa/admin/bin/ No such file or directory" in logs.

  116. [-]  Administrators failed to migrate to Panel 10.4 via Migration Manager XML API with the error "PHP Fatal error: Class 'Db_Table_Broker_ServiceNode' not found in /usr/local/psa/admin/plib/Db/Table/Broker.php".

  117. [-]  After upgrading to version 10.4, DNS records related to subdomains in the parent domain DNS zone were lost if administrators or customers added these records manually.

  118. [-]  Customers could not back up subscriptions that include domain names with non-English symbols.

  119. [-]  Panel failed to execute the daily maintenance script on systems that use the dash interpreter.

  120. [-]  Administrators could not log in to Panels installed on Virtuozzo containers with Concerto license.

  121. [-]  When restoring subscriptions with databases, customers could not specify a remote database server on which they want to restore their database.

  124. [-]  Panel did not change a subscription's expiration period when the corresponding service plan setting was updated.

  126. [-]  Customers could break the DNS server while configuring DNS settings of their subscriptions.

[-]  Customers could not change their system (FTP/SSH) password with the error "Unable to change perl settings: privilege to override providers's server-wide security policy is not granted" if they did not have the permission Setup of potentially insecure web scripting options that override provider's policy.

  128. [-]  Customers failed to retrieve their passwords by clicking Forgot your password on the log in page after upgrading from Plesk 8.x. The following error occurred: "Identification failed: invalid username or e-mail address specified. Please try again."

  129. [-]  Customers could not view the full list of downloads in AWStats with the error "404: Page not found".

  130. [-]  We discontinued the experimental ability to automatically upgrade to the late adopters tier (only updates can be applied automatically).

  131. [-]  We revised the Update and Upgrade Settings page for better usability.

  132. [-]  Administrators could see outdated statistics because Panel failed to collect and process web statistics and file system statistics with the error "Unable to connect to database: MySQL server has gone away" in the daily maintenance script log.

  133. [-]  Upgrade to Panel 11.0 failed with the error "Failed to perform IDN conversion from UTF-8 name 'ÑÑÑÑкий.test.dom'" if there was a subdomain with IDN before the upgrade.

" if Perl 5.10.1 or earlier was installed on a source server.

  135. [-]  Panel users could not create database users whose names started with a digit.

  136. [-]  Customers could see the "Secure your website" tool even if SSL support was unavailable for a subscription.

  137. [-]  Panel halted synchronization of the DNS template with zones if an error occurred during synchronization of a zone.

  138. [-]  Administrator failed to log in to Panel using Safari for Mac OS.

  139. [-]  Administrators could not update the IP address of a subdomain by running a command-line call similar to the following: "/usr/local/psa/bin/domain --update c1.dom -ip".

  141. [-]  Administrators failed to restart the Apache service with the error: "Syntax error on line 711 of /usr/local/psa/admin/conf/file_sharing.conf: Invalid command 'uffanelli"'", if too many Panel users were allowed to use file sharing.

  142. [-]  Administrators did not see the end-user license agreement after upgrade, if the Panel language was not English.
