1. Introduction

Thank you for downloading Parallels Plesk Panel for Windows.

This file contains information that supplements the Parallels Plesk Panel documentation, such as requirements, information about new features, resolved bugs, known problems, and so on. This file was updated with the latest information available at the time of release.
We recommend that you also read the detailed product review that will help you in understanding all Panel 11.5 changes.
If you want to suggest a new feature or an improvement, visit to submit your ideas and vote to increase the priority of your favorite items.

We do not provide support for upgrading Panel 11.5 preview builds. An attempt to upgrade such builds may cause Panel malfunction or errors during the upgrade. If you decide to upgrade a preview build, use Parallels Migration Manager or backup and restoration tools.

Parallels Plesk Panel 11.5

  1. [+]  Per-website configuration of the IIS web server. Customers can set a number of IIS settings (MIME types, default documents, and other) for a certain website.

  2. [+]  Search engine friendly domain aliases. Customers can set the 301 (search engine friendly) redirect for a domain alias. In this case, search engine ranking will not be split between the alias and the original site.

  3. [+]  Automatic customer's password generation. Administrators can automatically generate a password when creating a customer. The password will be sent to the customer by email.

  4. [+]  Access to the Control Panel for mail users. When creating a mailbox, customers can specify whether Panel should create a corresponding user account.

  5. [+]  Support for Windows Server 2012. Panel can be installed on Windows Server 2012.

  6. [+]  Support for Server Name Indication (SNI). Panel provides the support for SNI (individual SSL certificates for sites on a shared IP address) on Windows Server 2012.

  7. [+]  Improvements in File Manager. File Manager in the Control Panel offers a number of new handy features: Uploading files via drag and drop, uploading of multiple files, file preview, and others.

  8. [+]  A database user can access multiple databases. Customers can now create database user accounts. The created accounts can be of two types:

    When creating a database, customers can either create a new account for the database or use an existing one. In earlier Panel versions, when Panel created a database, it also automatically added a database user account for accessing the database.

  9. [+]  Database server selection for customers. Customers (if allowed) can select any database server registered in Panel for their own or app databases, as opposed to using the default database server. Administrators can grant their customers such an ability with the Database server selection permission.

  10. [+]  Support for FTP Secure. Panel users can access the server over FTP Secure (FTP-SSL). Administrators can adjust FTP security policy: allow only secure FTP-SSL connections, allow both secure and non-secure connections, or switch off FTP-SSL.

  11. [+]  Support for PHP 5.4. Panel 11.5 is supplied with PHP 5.4.

  12. [+]  Global search of APS apps. Panel users can use the global search (in the top-right corner of Panel) to search for available APS applications.

  15. [+]  Preliminary check for migration and transfer. Before starting data transfer from one server to another, Migration & Transfer Manager performs a check for potential transfer problems. This allows administrators to prepare for the migration (transfer) operation: Free disk space for temporary files, install required components to a destination server, and so on.

  16. [+]  Administrators can forbid customers to change the names of the system users* associated with customers' subscriptions. The permission is located on the Tools & Settings > Server Settings page.
    * This user name is used, for example, to log in to Panel through FTP.

  17. [+] Forced upgrades for Testing release tiers. Panel preview builds are now automatically upgraded to the next preview version. Such forced upgrades will be disabled at the end of the preview program.

  18. [+]  Panel users can use the apostrophe (') symbol in mailbox names.

  19. [+]  Before performing the default backup, Panel checks for free disk space needed to store the file. If there is not enough space, the backup is not started.

  20. [+]  Clearing mail queue. Administrators can clean the mail queue using the corresponding button in Tools & Settings > Mail Server Settings > Mail Queue.

  21. [+]  On the Statistics tab inside a subscription, Panel users can view disk space usage in more details: statistics about logs, backups, chroot directories, configurations files, and anonymous FTP directory.

  22. [+]  Panel users can use the underscore symbol ('_') in the DNS CNAME records. This symbol is required, for example, to configure DKIM.

  23. [+]  Users can specify how frequently a mail autoresponder should reply to the same email address (on the Mail > email account > Auto-Reply tab).

  27. [+]  Restricted API RPC access. Administrators can allow communicating with Panel through API RPC calls only from specified IP addresses. The list of allowed addresses is added to the panel.ini configuration file.

  28. [+]  Support for SmarterMail 10. Panel provides the support for the SmarterMail 10 mail server.

  29. [+]  Support for IceWarp 10.4. Panel provides the support for the IceWarp 10.4 mail server.

For example, you can remove a number of files in File Manager without confirmation, if you click the Remove button while holding the SHIFT key.

  32. [+]  IMAP traffic calculation. Panel calculates IMAP traffic for the MailEnable and IceWarp mail servers.

  33. [+]  Easy disconnection of Customer and Business Manager. Administrators can easily switch off Customer and Business Manager if it was installed by mistake (for example, as a part of the full installation). This can be done in Tools & Settings > Interface Management > Interface Controls Visibility > Disconnect Customer and Business Manager.

  34. [+]  Support for SpamAssassin 3.3.2. Panel is now supplied with SpamAssassin 3.3.2.

  35. [+]  Support for Apache Tomcat 7.0.x. Panel is now supplied with Apache Tomcat 7.0.x. After Panel upgrade, administrators will be able to specify which version to use on the server.

  36. [+]  Dynamic changing of notification thresholds of the disk space and traffic usage. Administrators can specify the Notify when disk space usage is reaching and Notify when traffic usage is reaching parameters of service plans in percentage points (%). This allows Panel to dynamically change the notification threshold when additional disk space or traffic are allotted to a subscription.

  37. [+]  Cloning operation improvement. After cloning to another virtual environment, Panel automatically applies all available updates. For example, you prepared an instance of Panel 11.5.19 Update#10 (the update number is fictitious). If the Update#15 is available at the moment when you clone the instance, the cloned Panel will get the 11.5.19 Update#15 version.

  38. [+]  Support for Web Deploy 3.0. Panel 11.5 is supplied with Web Deploy 3.0.

  39. [+]  Support for Adobe ColdFusion 10. Panel supports ColdFusion 10 when it is installed on the server.

  40. [+]  Suspending of the web hosting service on a site through the API RPC. The site API RPC operator now allows administrators to suspend only the web hosting service on a particular site or alias. The DNS and mail services continue to work on the site.

  41. [+]  Predefined list of apps for service plan add-ons. Administrators and resellers can specify the list of apps provided by a service plan add-on. In earlier Panel versions, this was possible only for service plans.

  42. [+]  Filter apps by license type. Customers can filter the list of available apps in their Control Panel by the app license type: free or commercial.

  43. [+]  Choosing the app version during app installation. Customers can choose the version of an app they are going to install in cases when there are several app versions available in the Application Catalog.

  44. [+]  Support for MailEnable 7.07. Panel 11.5 is now supplied with MailEnable 7.07.

  45. [+]  Optional DNS server installation. Administrators can choose not to install the DNS server during Panel installation. In this case, the BIND DNS server will not be installed and Panel GUI will not contain any tools for DNS management.

  46. [+]  Optional mail server installation. Administrators can choose not to install the mail server during Panel installation. In this case, only SMTP client will be installed on the server. Thus, Panel and user scripts will still be able to send mail but other mail functionality will be unavailable.

  47. [+]  Support for custom SMTP server. Administrators can specify the SMTP server which should be used to send Panel notifications and mail generated by users' scripts. Using such a server is the only option to send mail in case a mail server is not installed in the system.

  48. [+]  Support for PHP 5.4.12. Panel 11.5 is now supplied with PHP 5.4.12.

  49. [+]  Automatic updating of installed apps. Administrators can turn on automatic updates (Tools & Settings > Application Vault > Update Settings) of all APS apps installed in Panel. If administrators do not force apps updating, customers can turn on automatic updates for a certain app by themselves.

  50. [+]  Quick app installation. Users can install apps in one click - the Install button now leads to a quick installation that does not require specifying app settings: Apps are installed with defaults. Nevertheless, custom installation that includes specifying app settings is also possible with the Install (Custom) button.

  51. [+]  Support for the APS mail aspect. Panel now supports the APS mail aspect which allows apps to work with the Panel's mail service. For example, Panel mailboxes can be associated with Open-Xchange accounts.

  52. [+]  Improved performance of the mail content restoration. Mail content is restored much faster due to support for the native MailEnable, SmarterMail, and IceWarp providers instead of IMAP.

  53. [+]  Displaying RSS feeds in the Control Panel. Administrators can configure Panel to display an RSS feed to customers. The feed will be displayed in the right sidebar of the Control Panel.

  54. [+]  Support for BIND DNS Server 9.9.2-P2. Panel now supports BIND DNS Server 9.9.2-P2.

  55. [+]  Up-to-date third-party components. A number of third-party components used by Panel were upgraded. Panel is now supplied with the following components:

  57. [+]  Improved file transfer. Migration & Transfer Manager transfers files in a new deferred "rsync-like" way.

  58. [+]  Search engine-friendly site suspension. Site owners can suspend their sites in a search engine-friendly manner.

    Before Now
    Suspended sites stop being hosted on the server. Visitors see the web server's default page. Suspended websites remain hosted on the server. Site visitors are redirected with the 503 HTTP code to the custom maintenance error document page. The former way of site suspension is also possible (it is renamed to Disable). Administrators can define what Panel should do with sites in suspended subscriptions: They can be either suspended or disabled.
  59. [+]  Improved User Interface. The Websites & Domains page is now the default page of the Control Panel (the Home page was removed). Sites are presented in the form of an Active List - with direct access to actions relevant to sites. Each list item for a website is made bigger to display more information and to provide access to relevant operations on the site.

  60. [+]  Voting for new features. Administrators can now suggest any ideas about how to improve Panel or vote for ideas of other Panel users. They can open the vote form by clicking the Suggest an Idea button in the navigation pane of the Server Administration Panel. Administrators can also point this button to any other URL or hide it.

  61. [+]  Context menu for operations on files in File Manager. Possible operations on files are now grouped in the context menu instead of multiple buttons. Customers can open the menu by clicking the area near the file name.

  62. [+]  Notifications about available web apps updates. APS apps warn customers about available updates right on the app settings page.

  63. [+]  Support for Horde IMP5. Panel is now shipped with Horde IMP5. In case you upgrade from earlier Panel versions with installed Horde IMP3, Horde will be automatically upgraded to the 5 version.

  64. [+]  Support for Simple DNS Plus 5.2.x. Panel now supports the Simple DNS Plus 5.2.x DNS server.

  65. [+]  Support for PHP 5.3.26 and 5.4.16. Panel is now shipped with PHP 5.3.26 and 5.4.16.

  66. [+]  Backup signing. Panel signs backup files when they are downloaded or exported to external FTP repositories. The signature lets administrators distinguish trustworthy backups in the list of backups available for restoration.

    As backups created in earlier Panel versions are not signed, administrators will see warnings when uploading such backups to Panel 11.5.

  67. [+]  Extending Panel GUI and functionality by means of CSS and JavaScript files. Now developers can create Panel extensions that contain CSS and JavaScript files /htdocs/global.css and htdocs/global.js, which customize the UI and extend the functionality of any (possibly all) Panel pages.

  68. [*]  Customers can set any usernames for auxiliary users.

    The email address of an auxiliary user is used as a username for logging in to Panel. Auxiliary users can have any usernames.
  69. [*]  Administrators can set the path for storing a temporary backup file created when someone downloads the backup from the server.

    Before Now
    Panel creates a temporary backup file on the same disk partition with the source backup file. This can cause a backup download failure if there is not enough disk space for storing the temporary file. Administrators can set an arbitrary location for storing temporary backup files using the DumpTempDir option in PSA Config\Config in the Windows registry.
  70. [*]  ASP.NET security improvements.

    Before Now
    The default code access security (CAS) level of ASP.NET is the less secure Full level. Administrators can change it using configuration files. The default CAS level of ASP.NET is Medium. Administrators can change it in Tools & Settings > ASP.NET Settings > CAS trust level. Customers can change it for each site in case the Allow to override the CAS trust level for websites option is switched on by the administrator in Tools & Settings > ASP.NET Settings.
  71. [*]  Visibility of the Hard disk quota parameter to customers.

    Before Now
      The Hard disk quota parameter is always shown to customers.   If the administrator did not enable or set the Hard Disk Quota parameter for a subscription, users can not see this parameter (for example in Websites & Domains tab > Web Users ).

  73. [*]  Panel saves the state of the Hide Domain Aliases and Hide Subdomains options in the Service Provider view. In earlier versions, these options always became disabled after the administrator started a new session.

  74. [*]  The Zend framework which is a part of the Panel installation was updated to the version 1.11.15.

  75. [*]  Migration & Transfer Manager (MTM) improvements. MTM provides more convenient and informative reports on transfer results. Besides, MTM now does not show error messages and warnings when administrators try to transfer an object that already exists on the destination server.

    APS app info links are not shown. APS app info links are displayed on the app's summary page (Control Panel > Applications > select an app).

  81. [*]  The AtMail webmail software is no longer shipped with Plesk because AtMail is no longer supported by the vendor, so it will not be updated, and its security issues will not be resolved. AtMail on Plesk installations upgraded to 11.5 will work as before.

  89. [*]  Administrators now see the name of the mail server that is currently running in Tools & Settings > Mail Server Settings. In addition, now this page contains a link that allows to quickly switch to another mail server (for example, from Mail Enable to SmarterMail).

    Panel users were unable to switch on or off the SSL support on their websites if they did not have the permission Setup of potentially insecure web scripting options that override provider's policy. Panel users can switch on or off the SSL support on their websites if they have only the permission Hosting settings management.
  92. [*]  Improvements on the Applications tab. Customers can now sort the list of available apps (on the Applications tab) by category or their popularity.

  93. [*]  Websites in the maintenance mode are now restored in the Suspended state after the transfer from earlier Panel versions.

  94. [*]  Panel now uses Zend Optimizer+ (Zend OpCache) as the internal PHP optimizer. In earlier versions, Wincache was used.

    Before Now
    When a user suspended a domain in the Control Panel, the mail service stopped working. Hence, the owners of mail accounts on this domain could not send and receive emails. When a user suspends a domain in the Control Panel, the mail service keeps working. Additionally, the user has an option to disable the domain. In this case, the mail service will be stopped as well.
  103. [*] Parallels Installer appearance was updated to have the common style with Panel.

  104. [*] After creating a backup, Panel notifies users about files that were not included in the backup because of insufficient permissions.

  136. [-]  Administrators could not install Panel to a custom location. Regardless of the specified custom path, Panel was always installed to the default location.

  137. [-]  Customers could see the Sites published with Presence Builder resource on the Account > Resources tab even if their subscription did not include the support for Presence Builder.

  138. [-]  Developers of Panel extensions could receive incorrect variables' values using the var_dump function.

  139. [-]  Administrators failed to perform upgrade through transfer from Panel 10.2 and earlier if it contained a domain in the slave DNS mode with a DNS record pointing to a master name server with the IP address registered in this Panel.

  140. [-]  Panel incorrectly detected the Xeon E54xx CPUs.

  141. [-]  Administrators got unclear error messages when performing transfer or migration if the deployer utility was unavailable.

  142. [-]Customers were unable to add an email name with special symbols. Panel raised the error: "The specified email address is not valid".

  143. [-]Administrators failed to open customers' subscriptions if some data was missing in the Panel database (for example, after upgrade). Panel displayed the login page instead of opening the subscription. If the administrator logged in to the subscription using their credentials, Panel raised an error like: "Internal error: session has already been started by or session_start()..."

  144. [-]In some cases, when Panel users performed website backup with the turned on Suspend domain until backup task is completed option, the website remained suspended after the backup was finished.

    If the system fails to charge a credit card, it keeps trying to do this until the transaction is successful. Administrators can define how many attempts to charge a credit card the system should do and how much time it should wait between two consequent attempts.

2.3. Parallels Presence Builder 11.5

  1. [+] Background images. The editor now provides a selection of 75 background patterns and textures for use on sites.

  2. [+] Descriptions for images. Users can add descriptions for images that they upload through the Text & Images module. Descriptions can be shown over or under images, and they will serve as alternative text (alt text).

  3. [+] Links to e-mail. Users can insert links to e-mail addresses through the Text & Images module's toolbar.

  4. [+] Reordering images in galleries. Users can change the order of images in image galleries by dragging them.

  5. [+] Map module in website topics. The Map module was inserted into all website topics where it is appropriate. Now map is prefilled with the information specified on the topic selection screen.

  6. [+] Cookie notice. Site owners located in the European Union can show a notice about the use of non-essential cookies on their sites to comply with the EU legislation.

  7. [+] Support button. Providers can add the Support button to the editor's toolbar > Help menu to enable customers to submit technical support requests from the editor.

  8. [+] Removal of sites from hosting accounts upon clicking the Remove Site button. Providers can configure the editor to remove published sites from hosting accounts when their owners click the Remove Site button in the editor.

  9. [+] Design templates. Users can change the design of their sites with one mouse click, choosing from more than a dozen design templates. There are design templates generated automatically by Presence Builder and templates manually created by graphic designers.

Parallels Plesk Panel 11.5 for Microsoft Windows can run on the following operating systems:

The Windows Server 2003 is no longer supported by Panel, we recommend that you use later operating system versions considering our lifecycle policy.

A static IP address should be configured in the operating system before installing Parallels Plesk Panel for Windows.

Parallels Plesk Panel for Windows can be installed only on NTFS partition.

In order for your server to support Active Server Pages (ASP), Adobe ColdFusion, and Microsoft FrontPage Server Extensions, you need to install these components yourself.

Windows Installer 4.5 is required for Microsoft SQL Server 2008 installation. If it is not installed in the system, you can download it from the Microsoft official website.

If you plan to use Microsoft SQL Server support in Parallels Plesk Panel for Windows, the SQL Server should be installed and configured to use standard or mixed security mode. If Microsoft SQL Server is not installed, you can select it to be installed with Parallels Plesk Panel for Windows and configured with administrator name "sa" and a random password.

IMPORTANT: We strongly recommend that you install Parallels Plesk Panel for Microsoft Windows on a clean server.
