1. Introduction

Thank you for downloading this release of Plesk Sitebuilder 4.5 for Linux/Unix. This file contains information that supplements the Plesk Sitebuilder 4.5 for Linux/Unix documentation, such as requirements, information on new features, corrected bugs, known problems, etc. This file has been updated with the latest information available by release time.

2. Installation Instructions

We strongly recommend that you refer to the product installation instructions and product user manual prior to upgrading/installing and working in Plesk Sitebuilder. Refer to the Parallels Web site at http://www.parallels.com for more information:

2.1. Before Installation

Before starting the installation process, we strongly recommend that you create a full system backup of the previous installation.

2.2. Software Requirements

The following software should be installed in the system prior to the Plesk Sitebuilder installation:

For Plesk Sitebuilder server:

PHP 5 with all necessary components is shipped with Plesk Sitebuilder.

For published sites:

IMPORTANT: Make sure that host autoinstall.plesk.com is resolved correctly and cron manager is running. (Need for autoupdate)


2.3. Installation

You can install Plesk Sitebuilder in three ways:

  1. Using Autoinstaller
  2. Using native Meta-Package Manager
  3. From Tarball

3. Upgrade Instructions

To be able to upgrade from Plesk Sitebuilder 3.x to Plesk Sitebuilder 4.x, you need to have active Software Update Service (SUS).

IMPORTANT: If in Plesk Sitebuilder 3.x you have the default license installed, then upon upgrading, you will be given the default license for Plesk Sitebuilder 4.x. If you have uploaded a regular license in Plesk Sitebuilder 3.x, then upon upgrading, an equal 4.x license will be installed (with all the permissions allowed in 3.x, plus new features introduced only since 4.x version).

4.1 Plesk Sitebuilder 4.5 build 08090214

  1. [+]  Upgraded Zend Framework

  3. [+]  Ubuntu 8.04 support

  4. [+]  New Vista-like skin.

  5. [+]  Customizing RSS channels list. Plesk Sitebuilder's RSS Reader module enables site owners to add various RSS feeds to their pages by selecting from a list of RSS channels or by specifying a custom one. Plesk Sitebuilder administrator can now customize this default list of channels.

  6. [+]  Impersonating user accounts. This option allows administrator to log in to Plesk Sitebuilder on behalf of their customers without logging out from their own account and entering user's credentials - simply by clicking on the icon beside the desired user account.

  7. [+]  Migration from Parallels SiteStudio. It is now possible to easily migrate web sites created in Parallels SiteStudio (integrated with Parallels H-Sphere 3.2) to Plesk Sitebuilder.

  8. [+]  Site Map module. Allows site owners to display a clickable hierarchical model of their site structure to visitors.

  9. [+]  Removing design template  from pages. Site owners can now remove design template's layout and graphics from the desired pages.

  10. [+]  External Page module. Allows site owners to link site menu items to external web sites.

  11. [+]  Save button. A handy way for site owners to save changes they make while working on their site.

  12. [+]  Counter settings are moved to the Wizard. Site owners can now enable a counter on their sites at the Pages step of the Wizard, which previously required them to go to the Administrator Panel.

  13. [+]  Site visitor management is moved to the Wizard. Site owners can now manage their registered visitors through the Registration module editor at the Edit step of the Wizard, which previously required them to go to the Administrator Panel.

  14. [-]  An issue with block modules not working under IE7 is resolved.

  15. [-]  [Forum] An issue with categories of topics not filtered properly is resolved
  16. [-]  [eShop] An issue with the countries list not sorted properly is resolved.

  17. [-]  [RSS] An issue with the RSS module not working if the allow_url_fopen setting is 'off' is resolved.
  18. [-]  [Blog]  An issue with users unable to edit their comments is resolved.  

  19. [-]  A series of migration-related issues is resolved.

  20. [*]  [SDK] Ability to create custom design templates with more than three color schemes.

  21. [*]  Automatic creation of a service plan for anonymous users during installation. 

  22. [*]  Design templates improvements.  An issue with menu styles is resolved.

  23. [*]  A series of issues with the backup/restore utility is resolved.

4.2. WebServices API

  1. [+] New protocol version (4.5) support. Minor changes: unused fields are removed,  publication site response is extended, delete plan response is extended.

    NOTE: Currently supported protocol versions are: 3.1, 3.2, 4.0, 4.1.

5. Known Problems and Limitations

  1. Site's database is not transferred when republishing to another host.
  2. Supported browsers are: Internet Explorer 6.0/7.0, Firefox 1.5/2.0.
  3. Maximal number of page levels on sites is 2.
  4. Page modules, such as Image Gallery, Blog, etc., can not be added to site structure as second-level pages.
  5. Before starting installation on FreeBSD, make sure that your /etc/rc.conf includes the following lines:

Before installing Plesk Sitebuilder on a Parallels Virtuozzo Container, make sure that a Plesk Sitebuilder application template for the desired operating system is installed on the hardware node. If you wish to install Plesk Sitebuilder without using an application template, refer to the Installation Guide for a list of known dependency issues.
  7. Plesk Sitebuilder 4.5 is available in the following languages officially supported by Parallels : English, German, Japanese, Spanish, French, Russian, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese.
  8. Since a series of backup/restore issues was fixed, we recommend you to re-backup your data.
  9. Scrpits  for backup/restore (sbbackup2 and sbrestore2 ) have not been fully tested.
  10. Full backup/restore of media-heavy sites with dynamic content (like photogalleries or e-shops) requires a large amount of memory resources.
